Hare Hill is a lovely 60 acre farm located in Deborah Bay on the north side of the Otago Harbour, close to historic Port Chalmers and only 20 minutes drive from Dunedin New Zealand. Hare Hill offers horse riding suitable for the beginner right through to the more advanced rider throughout the year.

Riding Lessons
Take about an hour depending on the age and ability of the rider.
They are usually one on one but we can cater for groups if required.
All riding gear is supplied if necessary.

Scenic Harbour Trek 1½ to 2 hours
Enjoy stunning harbour views from horseback. We take a leisurely circuit through farmland and plantation, then back down the winding farm track. Refreshments and a snack are provided en route. A safe, rewarding trek for beginners. Perfect for beginners or experienced riders . There are opportunities for more experienced riders to practice their dressage or jumping after the trek.
Half Day Trek Hare Hill Trail 3 to 4 hours
A varied adventure for those with some experience, this delightful, ever-changing trail, starts along the harbour’s edge and then follows a historic tram route. We splash through a clear stream and climb through sheltered glades with tranquil views to reach drystone walls and buildings. Here we experience panoramic views of the Otago Harbour and Eastern Otago coastline.
We think this is one of the best views in the world !
Full Day Trek 7 - 9 hours
This trek continues from the crest of Hare Hill, along the ridge and down through farmland to historic Whareakeake (Murderers’ Beach). The ride takes at least three hours each way, leaving ample time to relax or ride on the beach and enjoy the tasty lunch provided. We return by a different route. Basic riding skills are required.
Beach Ride 3 hours
Spend half a day with the horses on the beaches of Aramoana. Suits beginners or competent riders with a maximum of two people per trip. View wildlife from horseback, including seals, sealions and penguins. Advanced riders will relish the opportunity to gallop along the white sands of the shore. Overnight Escape 24 to 36 hours
The perfect weekend getaway. Spend the afternoon riding to beautiful and secluded Whareakeake Beach. Arrive late afternoon at a romantic Cottage where a delicious meal awaits you. Spend your evening walking along the beach, fishing, exploring, riding, swimming or just relaxing. In the morning follow a different route to return to Hare Hill. Basic riding skills are required. This ride is not suitable for a winter experience.
Important Information
• Be advised that we have a maximum weight limit of 100kgs. (about 220lbs).
• Consult the http://www.dunedin.govt.nz/council-online/weather_information
• and if inclement weather looks likely, or it is raining on the day, please just give us a call on the day to check.
• Wear suitable clothing. Trainers and jeans are fine, heavy walking boots and shorts are not.
• We can provide riding boots and chaps for you to wear. Hats and weatherproof jackets will be provided.
• Don’t forget your camera! There are beautiful views whatever trek you choose.
• We want you to have a safe but enjoyable adventure. Our horses are not “plodders”, and we work hard to match the right horse to you. If we deem the whole group’s ability to be sufficient, then there may be the opportunity for short trots and canters on the rides. However, anyone causing disruption and jeapordising the safety and enjoyment of the group will be removed from the trek.
• Please park at the bottom of the driveway unless you have and are experienced at driving a four wheel drive vehicle.
• We offer EFTPOS facilities
Notes for the Beach Ride:
Our beach ride suits all abilities, but is especially enjoyable for those with riding experience who may wish to gallop along the sands.
However, we are at the mercy of the tides, and can only go within a 3 hour boundary of low tide.
