Rainbow Springs Kiwi Wildlife Park has come a long way since the land was first purchased in 1929. While there were many developments, there was always one vision for the land, that was to create a wildlife park with a strong focus on conservation.

Today the Park is an award winning tourist attraction with great features including kiwi, trout, tuatara, pigs, sheep, native birds and trees and New Zealand’s only ‘open to view’ kiwi hatchery and rearing facility.

Our Responsible Tourism Policy: To showcase the clean green image of New Zealand while advocating and educating visitors about conservation and our unique natural heritage.  To read more about Rainbow Springs' Responsible Tourism Policy

With over 140,000 people visiting the park each year, this is a ‘must do’ for all families, locals and tourists. Rainbow Springs Kiwi Wildlife Park are focused on conservation and sustainability making it an award winning tourist attraction that offers a world class visitors experience.

At Rainbow Springs Kiwi Wildlife Park, you can take in the scenery at your own pace. As you walk through the 22 acre parkland, you’ll encounter some spectacular flora and wildlife including New Zealand natives and introduced species.

Whether it is night or day, there is plenty to see and do:

• Watch New Zealand’s own kiwi in their natural environment as they forage for food.
• View the nocturnal kiwi when it comes out at night in an outdoor walk through enclosure.
• Feed the trout in the crystal clear spring fed pools and see them close up in the underwater viewer.
• See the trout circle at night in the spectacularly lit Rainbow Pool.
• Spot the kea, kaka, weka and many more native birds in the avaries and amongst the trees.
• Check out the tuatara – a living dinosaur
• Enjoy a picnic lunch with the family on the Fairy Springs lawn, where you’ll be surrounded by a gathering of sheep, donkey, pigs and chickens.
• Admire the native New Zealand bush surroundings with over 90 different native plants, trees and ferns throughout the park.
• Walk by the crystal clear mineral water that flows directly from the subterranean springs throughout the park.

Explore, Relax
At Rainbow Springs, there is more to explore other than the spectacular wildlife.
The Park has some truly beautiful forest, home to New Zealand natives and other giant imports. Take some time out to relax in our café and browse in the souvenir store during your visit. If you are a part of a Cruise Experience, Rainbow Springs is a must see to admire New Zealand’s spectacular scenery and wildlife.

There are plenty of picnic areas you can enjoy with your family while you take in the surroundings, or why not hold your next function there. With function rooms, beautiful parks and gardens, Rainbow Springs can cater for all occasions from staff meetings to weddings.

With so much to see & experience, you’ll want to come back in no time. Why don’t you? Once you have entered the park, you can come back anytime within the next 24 hours to enjoy the ‘nature by night’ experience. Open daily from 8am till late – one price allows you 24 hour access.
